Bill Denton

Billy Gene (Bill) Denton, age 73 of Carl Junction; formerly of Joplin, passed away at Missouri Veterans Home in Mount Vernon at 4:13 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2015 after a lengthy illness.

Born March 3, 1942 in Baxter Springs, KS, he was the son of the late Wheeler Leroy (Dick) Denton and the former Anna Marie Carmack and lived in the Joplin area his lifetime. A 1960 graduate of Joplin Senior High School, he was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Bill worked 31 years for Fleming Foods and then worked for Americold Logistics at the Carthage Underground until retirement. He was a member of College View Baptist Church. Bill loved his girls and was always focused on his family. He was an extremely hard working man, who also enjoyed fishing, gardening and working in his yard.

On September 10, 1966 he married Carol J. Galbraith in Joplin. She survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Tricia Abel and husband Eric of Piedmont, OK, Pam Courtney and husband Curt of Arma, KS; his brother, Bob Denton of Joplin; four grandchildren, Taylor and Ben Abel, Cole and Drake Courtney; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, George Reno.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Parker Chapel with Rev. Bob Jones officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Duke Denton, Eric and Ben Abel, Curt, Cole and Drake Courtney, Lance and Barry Galbraith serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends preceding the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Veterans' Home in Mount Vernon, in care of the mortuary.
