Chris Dale Coats, age 55 of Joplin, passed away at 8:16 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 in Joplin.
Born February 9, 1960 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Glen Dale Coats and Geraldine (Jerri) M. Graham Coats (later Marvin), and lived in the Joplin and Seneca areas his lifetime. Chris was a 1978 graduate of Seneca High School. He owned and operated Chris' Key Shop and Chris Coats Towing, both in Joplin. Chris was a dirt track racer for over 20 years in the four-state area. He was a member of Joplin Lodge No. 335, AF&AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Joplin; Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple, Springfield; Joplin Shrine Club and the Oriental Band Parade Unit.
In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by a brother, Kelly Dale Coats.
On November 7, 1980 he married Darlene Huddleston in Miami, OK. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Johnny D. Coats and wife Rachel of Joplin; a brother, Don Coats and wife Tammie of Joplin; a sister, Shanon Ritter of Joplin; a step brother, Eric Biggers and wife Deedra; a step sister, Kelley Wheeler and husband Gary; three grandchildren, Brendan Belden, Leighton Coats, Johnny Dale Coats, Jr.; a stepfather, Jim Marvin and wife Ramona of Joplin; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:35 a.m. Saturday at Parker Mortuary with Travis Walthall officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chris Coats Memorial Account at any SMB Bank Location.
