Helen M. Manning passed away December 31, 2015, just 12 days before her 89th birthday.
She was born in Lamar on January 11, 1927 to Frank and Lotte (Ward) Johnson. She grew up in Lamar and graduated from Lamar High School with the "Class of 44". She was baptized at age 14 at the Christian Church and considered herself a life long member.
She married Terry E . Manning on June 30th, 1946 in Lamar after He returned home after serving in the Army in WWII. His work with the Frisco Railroad took the young couple to Baxter Springs , KS, where they made their home. Terry preceded her in death September 9, 2006. Just 2 years later Their only son, Norman Manning, passed away on August 12, 2009. Helen is survived by 2 grand daughters and 5 great grand children. She is also survived by close friends and care givers Betty and William Haner who looked after her, providing the help she need to remain in her home in Baxter Springs until just 3 months ago when she need constant healthcare and entered the nursing home.
