Bernice M. Smith, age 102, passed away Monday evening, February 19, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas, after a long and productive life.
Bernice was born April 15, 1915 in Pineville, Missouri, to Rufus and Elva Mathis. After graduating high school in Pineville she was united in marriage to Otho J Smith and they moved to the family farm located on Big Sugar Creek where they raised their family.
Bernice was a beloved Mom, a faithful member of the Pineville Christian Church, good friend to many, loved gardening, her flowers, playing bingo and watching the many birds that frequented her feeders. She resided in Pineville most of her life until her health declined. At that time she became a resident of Jamestown Nursing and Rehab in Rogers, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Junior and Ellen, her husband, Otho, her son, Art, son-in-law, Glen, grandson, Michael, and a great granddaughter, Reata.
She is survived by four daughters Verna (Bill) Bennett of Weaverville, California, Carma (Glen, deceased) Wilson of Eureka, Kansas, Linda (Kenton) Johnson of Anderson, Missouri and Kay (Cliff) Thompson of Goodman, Missouri. Seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; a sister, Luetta Dickey of Hermiston, Oregon; sisters in law, Jean Mathis of Pineville, Missouri and Peggy Smith of Overland Park, Kansas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, February 24th, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Pineville Christian Church in Pineville, Missouri, with Pastor Gary Graham officiating. Internment will follow in the Pineville Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects on Friday from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Ozark Funeral Home of Anderson, MO.
