Donald L. Atteberry, age 95 of Joplin, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at his residence.
Don was born on May 7, 1922 in Duenweg, Missouri to the late Edwin Atteberry and Bertha Blackford Atteberry.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II, receiving the World War II Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. Don married Betty Eaton on January 14, 1949 in Bentonville, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on August 23, 2006.
He worked as a salesman for over twenty years with Johnson Wax Company, and then later for Brach Candy Company. Don was the last survivor of the Joplin Junior College Basketball Team. He loved Mizzou basketball and Saint Louis Cardinals baseball. He was a member of Saint James United Methodist Church, and the Joplin Elks Lodge. Don was a proud survivor of the Joplin tornado, rebuilding his home on the same lot.
In addition to his parents, and his wife of fifty-seven years, Betty, he was preceded in death by three grandsons, Sean Reineke, Matthew Buffalo, and Andrew Douglas Buffalo; one brother and two sisters.
He is survived by a son, Curtis Atteberry and wife Cindy of Joplin; two daughters, Donna Buffalo of Bernice, OK, and Beth Reineke of Joplin; five grandsons, Geoff Buffalo and wife Kim of Grove, OK, Chad Reineke and spouse Jerry Sappington of Joplin, Jeremy Buffalo of Bernice, OK, Michael Burke and wife Vickie of Carl Junction, Jerrod Reineke and wife Sara of Webb City; two granddaughters, Leslie Rennie and husband Kyle of McCune, KS., and Marissa Atteberry of Joplin; ten great-grandchildren, Alyssa Petree and husband Tony of McCune, Emily Zulu and husband, Dominic of Miami, OK., Kinzie Buffalo of Miami, Ethan Buffalo of Joplin, Ashley Burke and Emily Burke of Carl Junction, Grant Goltra, Claire Reineke and Brooke Reineke, all of Webb City, and Madeleine Buffalo, Miami, and two great great-granddaughters, Emma Rios and Rheagen Petree.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
