Cleta Cowan

Cleta Alene Guinn Cowan was born August 25, 1926 near McNatt, Missouri, at her parents' home, the youngest daughter of Jim and Meda (Sanders) Guinn. She entered into rest on Nov. 24, 2018 in Neosho, Missouri at the age of 92.

 Cleta was raised on Elhorn Creek, where she attended the local Baptist Church and accept Christ as her Savior as a teen. She walked to Barlow School for eight years and then attended high school at Stella. She moved to Neosho with her parents and later lived with her sister, Joina and family to St. Louis. 

Cleta and Robert G. Cowan were married on March 13, 1948 in Waterloo, Iowa. Robert’s job relocated them many times and Cleta had to find work while living in Indiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Ohio, Joplin and Kansas City, Missouri. She worked as a retail sales clerk and her last job in Arkansas was at J.B. Hunter in the material department. Following retirement, Cleta and Robert returned to Stella where they made their home in her grandparents' house. She loved to be with family and friends and they worked hard to restore the 100-year-old family house. On July 12, 1998, Robert preceded her in death. Cleta spent the last six years as a resident at Medicalodge in Neosho, where she and her family and friends would sit on the front porch and enjoy the weather. She attended several family reunions at the McNatt Baptist Church, where she was a member. Cleta is survived by her twin brother, Clifford Guinn of Stella; one sister, Joina Heck of Stella and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by an infant brother, Leo; brother, Cleo and his wife, Elizabeth; her oldest sister, Geneva Wilson and husband, Willie; brother in law, Les Heck; sister in law, Roxie Guinn and five nephews.

Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018 at 10 am at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 am until service time on Wednesday.
