Mary Lou Thompson

Mary Lou Thompson, 80, of Cherokee, KS, passed away at 2:11 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2018, at the Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg.

She was born April 5, 1938, at Cherokee, KS, the daughter of William and Mary Belle (Bowen) Bertella.

On August 29, 1958, she was united in marriage to Lyndon Lee Thompson at Cherokee, KS. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2003.

Mrs. Thompson worked for the West Mineral School for nine years and at the Cherokee Grade School for four years before her retirement.

Membership was held in the Cherokee United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Ruritan Club, Methodist Women, and FCE. She was chair of the Cherokee Homecoming Committee for many years and was very active in her community and church.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by two sons, Mark L. Thompson and his wife, Terri of rural Pittsburg, KS, and Kent A. Thompson and his wife, Patty of Cherokee, KS, one sister, Lena Mae Edwards of Joplin, MO, six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Tom Bertella and Dominick (Bob) Bertella.

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Thompson will be held at a later date at the Cherokee United Methodist Church, Cherokee, KS. Burial will be in the Hosey Hill Cemetery, Weir, KS. The family suggests memorials to the Cherokee United Methodist Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
