Carol Gaskill

(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)

Mrs. Carol Marie Cignetti Gaskill, 83, of Webb City, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, May 21, 2020, in the comfort of her home.

If you’re an over the road trucker or if you are wearing polyester, you should probably stop reading now. My mom and first husband, Bob Hemphill, split when I was very young. I had two older sisters, Lisa and Jenny.

When mom remarried in 1974 to Jim Gaskill, we moved out by the auto auction where I gained an appreciation for cars. Together they raised me, and did a pretty good job. I mean, I survived.

When Jim passed away in 2013, it left Mom with a lot of managerial things to do. With some help from a few family members, she would be able to take care of the business that her and Jim began years earlier.

My mom gave to several charities. She loved helping others. She was on a mission to save the world. She made a pretty good dent on a lot of fronts. As she was doing this, she was also trying to rid the world of 18 wheelers and polyester clothing. If you know my mom at all, you know she was a fighter. She had the easy part down though.

She could chastise a trucker for taking up both lanes or for the diesel rig making too much noise or smoke. She could also argue why someone would waste their hard earned money on something other than cotton clothing. But that was just mom. She liked a fight. Not a fistfight, per se, but an intellectual battle. And trust me, if she wasn’t winning, she would soon be changing the argument to fit her outcome.

But all joking aside, she was smart. She had the experience, and along with Jim, they made a pretty good living in 43 years together. I was their smartest son. I listened and learned. However, I didn’t let them know I was listening or learning. I played dumb for many years. Some would argue that I am STILL playing dumb. Only recently did I tell mom how smart I really was (you can substitute smart for lucky and it still works). I have a great wife and four awesome sons. All of them wear cotton and none of them are truck drivers. No offense to the men and women delivering so many goods and services all across our country. That was just mom. She worried that the trucks would ruin our roadways.

I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to grow up with a mother who inspired me. She loved opera, The BeeGees and Neil Diamond. She loved the arts. She was always reciting lines from her favorite poets.

Her inspiration is deeper than all of that though. She has many phrases and quotes that have served me well over the years. She taught me to be humble. She taught me virtues. She practiced what she preached, and always made me act appropriately. I am in control of my life because she showed me how to live the right way. I am forever in her debt for making me the person I am today.

She’s with Jim and my sisters now. Her brothers are there also, to help keep her in line. Along with grandpa Cig and grandma Alice. And, one of these days I will join her and be able to enjoy her music, art and her beautiful spirit again. I love and miss you, mom.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim Gaskill, on September 29, 2013; three children, Christopher, Lisa and Jenifer; and three brothers, Ron, Al and Robert.

Carol is survived by her son, Jason Gaskill, and wife, Debra, of Webb City; two grandsons, Eriq Kristek and Alex Gaskill; two step-grandsons, Rocky Trammell and wife, Chelsea, and Dakota Trammell and wife, Becky; three sisters, Mary Welch of Joplin, Shirley LePage of Jefferson City and Nancy Mayer of Ft. Worth, Texas; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday morning, May 28, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at her beloved church, St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Joplin, Missouri, with Father J. Friedel officiating. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Missouri. Don Bradley

Donald Dean Bradley, of West Columbia, TX, passed away 16 May 2020, at age 79.

Don was born 14 September 1940, in Diamond, MO, to Roy and Lois Bradley. When Don was three, Lois married Robert "Vic" Bradley (Don's biological uncle) who raised Don as his own son. Don or "Donald Dean" or "Dean" as he was called by most of his family, friends, and classmates graduated Diamond High School in 1958, where he was active in several sports and was President of the Diamond Chapter of the Future Farmers of America.

He married JoAnn Jeans (deceased) in 1958, and the two ran a family farm business until 1978. In 1961, Don was awarded the prestigious American Farmer Degree by the National FFA Chapter. Don was very active in the Diamond community. He was a member of the First Christian Church, coached youth baseball, served on the School Board, and acted as a chaperone for school dances, FFA trips, and other school related activities.

In 1979, Don relocated to Bay City, TX, where he worked for several construction companies and at times was self-employed. In 1983, Don married Wynona "Dodie" Claybourn and the two eventually settled at their current residence in West Columbia, TX.

Don was preceded in death by brothers, Doyle Bradley and Leon Bradley and sisters, Mildred Pierce and Neva Greathouse.

Don is survived by his wife, Dodie Bradley, West Columbia, TX; sons, Robert Bradley (Lisa), of Lubbock, TX, and Bill Bradley (DeDra), of Paradise, MT; stepsons Jody Claybourn, of Bay City, TX, Lane Claybourn (Christine), of Mesquite, TX, and Mike Claybourn (Diana), of Clute, TX; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Don had many passions, but plain old hard work may have been at the top of the list. No one worked harder than Don. After long hours at the farm, ranch, or construction jobs, you would find Don building projects for his church, working on the baseball field, or helping friends in need of a strong back. Only after his health began to fail did you catch him sitting down.

He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in sports. Don was extremely active in church related activities and spent much of his retirement years volunteering and helping out at the Wild Peach Community Church. He always planted a large vegetable garden and enjoyed giving away the produce he grew.

However, Don's favorite hobby was his love of cattle ranching. Even well into his retirement, Don was involved in cow/calf operations whether it was on his own or in partnership with sons and grandsons.

Don was loved and respected by countless people. He seldom had an unkind word to say regardless of how hard you tried to get him riled up. He was honest, kind, and would give you the shirt off his back if you were in need. Physically, Don was a big man, but his heart and soul were even larger. He generously opened his home to family members who needed a place to stay during difficult times. Family and friends were what mattered most to Don. People who knew Don always commented on his friendly, outgoing attitude, humor, and how genuine he was. He was always happy, and he loved to joke with and tease people; in fact, the more he picked on you and 'aggravated' you, the more he liked you.

Don led two lives - the first 40 years as a farmer in Diamond, MO, and the last 40 in West Columbia, TX. We were fortunate to have him in both places. His family and friends will miss the "ole Missouri farm boy."

Services will be scheduled for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution (in the name of Don Bradley) to either: WPCC Children's Church, P.O. Box 1621, Brazoria, TX 77422 or a Future Farmers of America chapter at your preferred high school.

Greg Boulware

(From Cremations of the Ozarks)

Robert Gregory “Greg” Boulware, took the hand of Jesus and peacefully passed into Heaven on May 15, 2020.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Boulware (Hollister, Missouri), and his oldest son, Ryan Gregory Boulware (Santee, California). He joins his son, Russell Gregory Boulware, in Heaven.

Greg was born on March 29, 1947, and raised in San Diego, California. When he was 15, his father, Robert George Boulware, passed away and Greg moved to Rolla, Missouri. Greg’s paternal grandmother, Mae Prewett, provided pure, welcoming love that nurtured him in his grief. Mae and her husband, Lee, his maternal grandparents Guy-Guy and Bess Spurling, his aunt and uncle Helen and Wayne Spurling, his aunt and uncle Annie and Bill Spurling, all shaped how he would beautifully love his own family in the years to come.

While in Rolla, Greg met Gabe Wilson, who, along with his wife June, became part of his forever family. Gabe preceded Greg in death. After high school graduation, the surf took Greg back to San Diego where he resided until 1993 when he moved back to Missouri. There he found the love of his life, Debbie, and they married on October 23, 1999.

Greg was always a dedicated, hard worker, first as a young boy in his grandfather’s filling station, in the construction industry after high school, and eventually settling into a management career in the lumber industry, mostly for Western Lumber Company in San Diego.

In Missouri, he joined the Silver Dollar City team and found his calling making toys with the children at the furniture factory, the toy shop, and in Santa’s Workshop at Christmas. His SDC family named him “Whodoo” and many still call him that today. Semi-retirement led him to join the Hollister School family as a school bus driver, where he cherished each child that stepped onto his bus.

His love for woodworking developed into a hobby that he and Debbie enjoyed together, creating toys for children and gifts for loved ones.

Greg battled cancer, starting in 2001 and reappearing in 2011. In the face of these health challenges, he chose to bring smiles to those treating him. One of his favorite nurses, Nikki Markes, affectionately named him “Captain Morgan.” The wonderful Branson Cancer Center team, and many of their patients, called him “Captain” for the many years of care and treatment that followed.

In the midst of his health challenges, Greg focused on serving his community. He was a member of First Baptist Church-Branson and served in their Awana program. He and Debbie facilitated NAMI’s Family-to-Family classes both in Branson and in Harrison, Arkansas.

Greg leaves behind a large circle of loved ones, including his mother-in-law, Sandy Higgins, and her husband, Gary (Carthage, Missouri); aunt Helen Spurling (Chula Vista, California); sister-in-law, Jeanie Hardman, and her husband, Gary (Bellingham, Washington); sister-in-law, Janet Jones (Alameda, California); brother-in-law, Terry Aronson (Carthage, Missouri), cousins Linda and John Spurling (Tyndall, South Dakota), Bob Spurling (Escondido, California), Mike Spurling and his wife, Emma (San Ysidro, California); and a number of nieces and nephews, family and friends who he dearly loved. He joins his sister-in-law, Donna Aronson, and his father-in-law, Larry Higgins in eternity.

Ryan and Debbie are especially grateful for Jeanie and Gary Hardman, who provided such love and support for the three of them during the last two months.

As a devoted husband, dad, and beloved family member and friend, Greg loved deeply; he was strong and protective, yet tender and compassionate. He gave selflessly, surprising loved ones with many gestures of kindness that will never be forgotten. He found joy in the midst of pain (James 1:2-4), and, though weary from chronic illness, chose daily to sweetly love those that the Lord placed before him. And oh, how he made us laugh! Greg’s sense of humor was a gift that brought countless smiles and soothed hurting hearts. Most importantly, he settled his faith and accepted the priceless gift of Jesus, and, thus, we have the blessed assurance that enables us to rejoice (Philippians 4:4-7) knowing we will be together again.

A celebration of Greg’s life was held at FBC-Branson, 400 S. Sunshine, Branson, Missouri at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2020.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Greg’s memory to FBC Branson Kid’s Ministry or your favorite charity. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.
