Mike Lamb

Michael Edward Lamb, age 82, passed away at 3:23 am, Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at his home following an illness. He had lived in Baxter Springs since 1959.

Mike was born September 21, 1937 in Joplin, MO to Edward Newton and Rachel Faye (Dorman) Lamb. He grew up in Galena KS and graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1955.

Mike was married to Patricia Ann McGinnis on February 14, 1959 in Baxter Springs, KS. He received Army basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO before transferring to the Air Force Reserves.

He was an excellent salesman by trade, working several years for Convenience Store Services, located in Joplin and later in Carthage, MO. He had also worked at United Automotive Distributors in Carthage, sold Prudential Insurance, and was a newspaper ad salesman in Baxter Springs and Columbus. He later owned and operated Financial Services in Baxter Springs. Mike also enjoyed working for JCPenney in the suit department in Joplin, MO and took a lot of pride in helping his customers look their best.

After his retirement, he served as an ombudsman for local nursing homes, served on the Baxter Springs City Council in Ward 1, and worked with a pest control company exterminating birds in Wal-Mart stores throughout the Midwest.








He was a member of First Assembly of God, Baxter Springs and a long-time member of the Baxter Springs Lions Club. His early hobbies included leathercrafts and playing golf, but in later years, Mike enjoyed getting coffee with the many friends that he’d made with his sales calls over the years.

He is survived by his wife Pat Lamb of Baxter Springs. Additional survivors include his daughter Lori Barnes (husband Brad), Harrisonville, MO; two granddaughters, Allyx Robertson (husband Austin) and Audrey Barnes; one great-grandson, Dallas Robertson; one brother, James R. Lamb (wife Gay) of Caneyville, KY; and a favorite cousin that he grew up with who was like a sibling, Carolyn (Small) Huddleston of Dallas, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Sandra Lee Lamb. When Michael was a young boy, he had tuberculosis and lived with and was cared for by his aunt Edith (Dorman) and Uncle Dan Abbey, of Galena, KS, who had no children of their own. They remained special to him his whole life and they also preceded him in death, as well as his aunts Helen (Howard) Miller of Wichita, KS, Francis (Harry) Robeson also of Galena, Jean (Bob) Ewan of Bella Vista, AR.

On his father’s (Lamb) side, were aunts Clymena (Clarence) Hayward, Doris (Ralph) Lammers, Dixie (Virgil) Lyster, Twyla, uncle George (Marie), and aunt Rayma (Clint) Lyster.

Mike was entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for cremation.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:30 pm, Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, KS. COVID-19 restrictions will apply. The family will privately bury his cremains at Baxter Cemetery, Baxter Springs, KS following the visitation.
