Rex Mitchell

Rex Grover Mitchell, age 78, Webb City, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at his home with family at his side.

Rex was born June 14, 1941 in Joplin, son of the late Clarence Mitchell and Chloe Steele Mitchell. He attended Joplin Schools, and served in the United States Army during Vietnam, serving in Vietnam, then Fort Knox, Kentucky, and finally being stationed in Germany. He returned to the Joplin area, and served for an additional 22 years with the National Guard before retiring.

Rex also drove a truck for Eagle-Picher for nearly 30 years before retiring. He was a proud member of the American Legion, and the VFW Post #435. He was currently a member of Forest Park Baptist Church, North Campus.








In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, DaWanda Nelson Mitchell, whom he married on January 31, 1964. She passed away on January 16, 2015. An infant son, Raymond Harrison Mitchell, who passed February 26, 1968, and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his daughters, LaDonna Hedrick (Tom), and LuCinda "Cindy" West (Richard) all of Webb City; seven grandchildren, Ashley Mitchell, Joshua Hedrick (Kayla), Wyatt Hedrick, Tristan Ash, Isaac West, all of Webb City, Jacob Hedrick (Makayla) of Kansas City, Missouri, and Vennessa Nichols (Chase) of Joplin; eight great-grandchildren, Tinlee, Titus, Harlyn, Evelyn, Kaytlyn, Jayla, Braxton, and Carter; brothers, Buddie Mitchell (Quana Sue), Charlie Mitchell (Jenny), and a sister, Sue Redden (Jay) all of Joplin; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church Chapel with Pastor Tim Hall officiating.
