Harold Haley

(From Simpson Funeral Home)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harold L. Haley on the evening of April 17, 2023, after a long illness.

Harold was born March 11, 1930, in Texas to Clarence and Goldie Haley. The oldest of three siblings, Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Shirley Ann, father Clarence, Mother Goldie, Sister Lois, and brother Paul.

Harold was a long-time resident of Oak View, moving from Missouri in 1955 after his marriage to Shirley Ann to begin his career in the oil drilling business. Harold worked for several California oil companies in Taft, Santa Paula, and Ventura, eventually having a long career with Flour Offshore Drilling where he worked as a crane operator on offshore production drilling rigs throughout the world.

In 1958 Harold and partner Clyde Heffner owned and operated the Haley-Hefner Egg Ranch in Oak View, CA where they supplied eggs to the local grocery and ranching communities for several years. Harold was proud to say he supplied eggs to Johnny Cash ranch in Casitas Springs and knew Johnny during his heyday’s in the 1960’s.

Harold enjoyed activities with his family and cherished his time with his grandsons Taylor and Kenny fishing and working in his shop. Harold was very proud that he taught his grandson’s how to fix almost anything. He was especially happy when his great grandchildren visited and was proud to say he lived long enough to meet and spend time with them.

All his friends and family would agree that he was a hard worker, generous, kind and always ready to help anyone. His memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Harold is survived by his son Kenneth Haley (Lauretta), of Oak View, CA, Grandsons Kenneth Haley (Jasmine) of Longview TX, Taylor Haley (Cierra) of Ventura CA, sister Pauline Rose (Wayne) of Carthage MO and Great Grandchildren Layla Haley, Brody Haley, Karter Smith, nieces, and nephews.

Special thanks to his caregiver Beth and nurse Melinda who lovingly cared for him over the last few years.

Graveside service to be held 1pm Saturday July 15, Carl Junction Cemetery and a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Oak View CA. Floral services provided by Countryside In The City, Joplin MO 417-781-3719.
