Leroy Stephens

Leroy Eugene Stephens, age 89 of Decatur, Arkansas went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 25, 2023 at Siloam Springs Health and Rehab. 

Leroy was born on December 1, 1933 in the Ozark hills of Southwest Missouri out on Huckleberry Special, down Skaggs Holler Road. He was the fifth out of ten children born to the late, Clifford and Emmeline (Cargile) Stephens.








On April 23, 1954 he was united in marriage to Mary Ruth Daughterty and to this union two sons and a daughter was born. They resided fourteen years in Scotia, California, where Leroy worked at Pacific Lumber Company before moving to Northwest Arkansas in 1970. Leroy worked for Daisy, Emerson, then Union Carbide in Rogers, Arkansas until he retired in 1990. He also drove a bus for the Rogers School District and Neosho, Missouri Schools. 

Leroy had a passion for playing the piano for over 50 years in area churches and singing. He enjoyed piecing quilt tops and would quilt some beautiful quilts for family and friends. Leroy enjoyed looking up Stephens genealogy and would organize a Stephens reunion every year, until covid.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 59 years, Mary Ruth Stephens; a son, Jimmy Leroy Stephens; a granddaughter, Jennifer Stephens; four brothers, Junior, Paul, Larry and Bob Stephens; two sisters, Maxine Leuellen and Mary Ann Finney.








Leroy is survived by his son, Terry Stephens (Kathy) of Decatur, Arkansas; a daughter, Norma McCullough (Fred, Jr.) of Bentonville, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Frankie Stephens of Gravette, Arkansas; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren; a sister, Irene Williams of Grove, Oklahoma; brothers, Robert Stephens (Mary) of Pineville, Missouri, Joe Stephens (Jan) of Seneca, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends who will dearly miss him.

Funeral service for Leroy will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Decatur Assembly of God Church, 735 N. Main Street in Decatur, Arkansas. Pastor Ken Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Falling Springs Cemetery in Decatur, Arkansas. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The family will receive friends at this time.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations be made to the Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, Arkansas, in care of the funeral home.
