Josh Shere

(From Ozark Funeral Home)

Joshua Edward Shere, age 23 of Anderson, Missouri, passed away at Westgate at Wildwood Ranch in Joplin, Missouri after an eight-year battle with a brain tumor.

Joshua was born in Joplin, Missouri on March 19, 2000 to Rick Shere, Sr. and Dee Ann McKinney. He graduated from McDonald County High School in 2018 and worked at Subway in Anderson for a time.

He was a member of Hilltop Mission Church in Anderson, Missouri. Josh loved to sing Amazing Grace and participated in many VBS programs and Christmas plays. If you were feeling sad or having a bad day, Josh could always cheer you up and make you laugh.

It was his dream to go to college and be a school counselor. He wanted to help and wanted you to know that you mattered and that there was hope. He dreamed of travel, loved to cook (and eat!), play checkers and video games. Josh had to pet every dog he met and music was his therapy.

Josh was a voracious reader, he loved to learn. He enjoyed playing Magic the Gathering with his friends on Fridays. He was writing a book of his experiences called “Diary of an Angry Tumor.” He wanted to share his story. He was a KC Chiefs fan and enjoyed watching them win the Super Bowl this year.

Joshua will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. He was an inspiration to us all. He fought like a warrior against cancer and he did not complain. He won this war and would tell us not to cry for him rather make your peace with God, love the Lord with all your heart so that you too can one day be free to experience the love, joy, and peace Joshua knew.

He was preceded in death by his Maternal grandfather, Floyd Morris and paternal grandparents, Harold Shere and Laura (Emert) Shere.

Joshua is survived by his parents, Dee Ann McKinney and Rick Shere, Sr.; maternal grandmother, Bobbie Morris; siblings, Sarah and (Michael) House, Melody and (Tyler) Burton, Bridget Spencer, Ricky Shere, Jr., Tera Shere, Zachry and (Courtney) Shere; many nieces and nephews; uncles and aunts and other family.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the funeral home to be used according to the families wishes.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.ozarkfuneralhome.com.
