Luella Birthelmer

V. Luella Birthelmer entered into rest August 13, 2014. She was born September 26, 1928 to Harry and Eleanor (Ridenour) Smallwood in Simpson, KS. She resided in Neosho, MO since 1997.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, gardening and crafts. For several years, she owned and operated “Luellas Crafts” in Madisonville, KY and Nashville, TN when she lived in these cities.

For many years, she was an active member of the TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) organization, and served as leader for the group several times when she resided in Canton, OH and Neosho, MO. In 1988, she attained the status of KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly), which she maintained during her life.

She was also an active participant with the Flower Box Newcomers Club in Neosho, MO.

On May 27, 1961, she married Wilbur (Wil) M. Birthelmer in Wichita, KS and he survives. Additional survivors include a son, Michael K. Birthelmer, Neosho, MO. She had a son Alan K. Stewart, KS and a daughter, Dee Stewart Otto, WA, from a previous marriage and they both survive, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Other survivors include Jim D. and Linda Smallwood, brother and sister-in-law, Neosho, MO; Jim L. Smallwood, nephew and wife Jennifer, Neosho, MO; and Keith Pearson, brother-in-law, Wichita, KS. Her sister Evelyn Pearson, preceded her in death. Her father, Harry Smallwood died in August 2001 and her step-mother, Hazel Smallwood died in September 1997.
