Pauline Hill

Pauline Kelly Hill, age 100, Joplin, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014 at Spring River Christian Village.

Pauline was born November 19, 1913 in Mab, Louisiana, daughter of the late David Avery Kelly and Mamie Pauline Purgahn Kelly. She graduated from Elizabeth High School in Louisiana in 1930, and then received her nurse's training at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1933. She continued to work there for four years as surgical supervisor. She accepted a position as Surgery Supervisor at Burge Hospital in Springfield, Missouri in 1938. She met Harry Hill while there, and they were married on May 28, 1938 in Carthage, Missouri. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage before his passing on October 8, 2000. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

While in Joplin, she worked for Dr. Moody, Dr. Howard, and Dr. Scorce before she began motherhood.

After her daughters were raised, she resumed her career as a nurse for Dr. Donald Patterson, and later Dr. Alice Wilson.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Joplin. For 14 years she volunteered and served on the board of Tri-County Cerebral Palsy Center. She was a former member of JACOMA Extension Club, Women's Guide study group, and supported P.O.N.D. (Parkinson's and Other Nervous Disorders).

Survivors include her children, Nancy Hill Briggs of Chester, Virginia, Suzanne Hill Kelly and husband Pat of Joplin; grandchildren, Gretchen Brill of Chester, Virginia, Erin E. Ball and husband Kevin of Edgewater, Maryland, and Andy Kelly and wife Terry of Andover, Connecticutt; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Bruce Jacobs and Louise Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Sunday from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Tri-County Cerebral Palsy Foundation, or First United Methodist Church in care of Parker Mortuary.
