Ed Grundy

Edwin L. (Ed) Grundy, a lifetime Carthage resident, passed away October 17, 2016 at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.

Ed was born January 15, 1949 to the late John and Bea Heisten Grundy. A 1967 graduate of Carthage Senior High School, Ed worked at the Carthage True Value Hardware until serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968-1970.

Returning home from the service he was appointed assistant manager of the True Value store, and later was positioned as manager until 1982, after which he and his wife, Cherryl, opened and operated Grundy’s Furniture Restoration until retirement. Ed, also known as the “woodman”, for his knowledge and love of everything wood, a craftsman and an artisan he participated in many craft shows. Ed’s love for gardening was instilled in him at a young age, if he wasn’t on his tractor; he wanted to be fly fishing or at his scroll saw. Ed was a servant to the community, and was awarded the Richard M. Webster Citizen of the Year in 2011. Ed was instrumental in the beginning of the Maple Leaf Antique Car Show, cleaning and restoring Kellogg Lake, Ruby Jack Bike/Walking trail, and Kid’s Fishing Day. Ed was a member of the First Baptist Church Lamar and now joins loved ones in Heaven in true praise and worship.

Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Cherryl Ann Kester Grundy, his Son Eddie & wife Dr. Melanie Grundy, his adored granddaughter Hannah Kaye Grundy, one brother, J.W. (Dub) Grundy and wife Marcia, brother in law Harry Kester and wife Judy, Father in law Gale G. Kester, also surviving are nieces Kim Thrasher-Dickey, Stacey Kester Chapman, nephews Mark W. Grundy, and Clifton W. Kester.

Memorial gifts are suggested to the First Baptist Church Lamar in memory of Ed Grundy. A Celebration of Ed’s life will be held October 29, 2016, 10:30 a.m. , at the First Baptist Church Lamar, 1301 E. 6th Street, Lamar, MO, Pastor Robb Hodson officiating, reception following.
