Jim Doran

We celebrate the life of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. James V. Doran 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 1st, in Joplin, Missouri. He was born November 9th, 1930 to William Bernard Doran and Agnes Ruth McCann in Maryville, Missouri. He graduated from Horace Mann High School in Maryville in 1948 and then proudly served in the U.S. Air Force 41st RSM Squadron in Germany as a special intercept radio officer from 1951 through 1954. On June 23rd, 1956 he married Esther Marie Roth in Kansas City, Missouri and they celebrated a beautiful marriage of 60 years in June of this year.

He retired from a career in sales with the Del Monte Foods Corporation in 1985. Jim treasured his time and making memories with his grandkids, and loved to watch his three sons participate in sports through their early school years. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and golf throughout his life. He enjoyed meeting the guys he called his “drinking buddies” in the morning at Braum’s for coffee and biscuits and gravy….and we swore not to pass this information along to the family physician.

Survivors include his wife Esther who he affectionately called “My Es” and his brother Charles Doran, his 3 sons, Steve Doran, his wife Donise and their 3 children Ashley, Austin and Avery; Brian Doran and his wife Kris and their 3 children Kaitlyn, Kelsie and Kenzie; and Kevin Doran and his wife Toni and their daughter Addison. All 3 sons reside in the Joplin area.

He was preceded in death by his infant son Roger Gerard Doran and siblings William, Eugene, Marvin and Mary Louise.

Jim and Esther have been long time members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and recently members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church; both in Joplin.

A Rosary will be held on Thursday, October 6th at 6:00pm at Mason - Woodard Mortuary in Joplin, with visitation to follow; address 3701 East Seventh Street Joplin, Missouri. Funeral will be Friday, October 7th at 10:00am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 812 N Pearl Ave, Joplin, Missouri. Graveside service to be held at 3:00pm in Westphalia, Kansas.
