Jimmy Roy

Jimmy Wayne Roy, age 81, passed away unexpectedly at 1:49 am, Monday, October 29, 2018 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO.

Jimmy was born December 5, 1936 in Galena, KS. His parents were Louise and Beauford Roy.

He graduated from Galena High School and earned a BS degree in Industrial Arts at Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling at Central Missouri University, Warrensburg, MO.

He began teaching in 1960 and was involved in education for a total of 39 years, retiring in 1999. During his tenure he taught Math, Science, and Industrial Arts, was a High School Principal and spent 35 of of those years as a Guidance Counselor.

As a young man he was a member of Sixth Street Baptist Church, Galena, KS, was baptized and served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Director and sang in the church choir.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, flowers, wood working, music, singing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

On August 21st, 1960, he married Donna Brown at the Sixth Street Baptist Church in Galena, KS. Survived by his loving wife of 58 years. He is also survived by four children, Stephen Roy (Jonetta), Arvada, CO, Teresa Fink, Springfield, MO, Karen Bayard (Rene), Mililani Hawaii, and Angela Johnson (Armando), Springfield, MO; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Sally Hughes, Galena, KS, Rosetta Allen, Baxter Springs, KS, and Vickie Prier, Joplin, MO. He leaves a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Moody; his step-father, Clarence Moody; his father, Beauford Roy; 3 sisters, one brother; and one granddaughter, Melissa Haney.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 -2:00 pm, Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 pm, Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS. Pastor Dave Robinson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Anthony Bayard, John Hughes, Armando Johnson, Karon Johnson, William “Kay” Lindsey, Dustin Roy.
