(From Derfelt Funeral Home) William Jay Dean “Jay” Rector, age 66, passed away at 12:55 pm, Monday, April 26, 2021 at the Galena Nursing and Rehab Center, Galena, KS following an illness.
Jay was born September 21, 1954 in Neosho, MO. His parents were Joe Dean and Edith Colleen (Mapes) Rector. He had lived here since 1972.
He graduated from Altus Oklahoma High School with the class of 1972. He worked most of his career in retail sales, last working at Downstream Casino. He was a champion pool player, playing in several tournaments including contests in Las Vegas, NV. Jay also enjoyed running in marathon races.
Surviving is one daughter, Poppi Landers (Zack), Winter Haven, FL; two grandchildren, Zoe Landers and Ethan Landers; 6 brothers, Dale Rector (Sherry), Oklahoma City, OK, Russell Rector, Miami, OK, Doug Rector, Joplin, MO, David “Critter” Rector (Kelly), Duenweg, MO, John Leary, Independence, OK, and Robert Leary (Jennifer), Joplin, MO; two sisters, Deana Scott, Baxter Springs, and Marcy McCall (Monty), Wyandotte, OK; his uncle, Dale Rector (Carolyn), Wichita, KS; two aunts, Stella Bolden, Collinsville, OK, and Anna Ray McClure, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that loved him very much.
Jay was preceded in death by his father, Joe Rector, his step-mother, Leslie Rector, his mother Colleen Collins, two step-fathers, Robert Leary and Ed Collins; and one sister, Edith Diane Russell and his lifetime best friend Mike Mitchell.
He was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS for cremation.
The family will host a celebration of life at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the farm where he lived.
