Sybil Mailes

Sybil B. (Kelley) Mailes, 95, Seneca, Mo., passed peacefully into eternal rest at 7:13 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Oak Pointe of Neosho.

Sybil was born August 28, 1925 in Newton County, Mo. to John and Josie (Whittington) Kelley. 

After attending school at Westview and Seneca High School, she graduated from Neosho High School in 1943. Upon graduation, she moved to California and worked in the offices of I.P.T. in Los Angeles.








She married Leonard F. Mailes July 7, 1944 in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas when he was in the Navy during World War II. They lived in Glendora, California for five years after Leonard returned from active duty, before returning to southwest Missouri. Sybil worked some outside the home and was very involved supporting her children and grandchildren's various school, athletic and organization activities. After retirement, she and Leonard traveled extensively which they enjoyed. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seneca. Leonard preceded her in death in 2009.

Survivors include one son, Lenny Mailes and wife Elaine, Oologah, OK; two daughters, Karen Crowley and husband Steve, Miami, OK; and Jeanne Groff and husband Doyle, Bella Vista, AR; one brother James Kelley, Huntsville, AL; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Sybil was preceded in death by her parents and nine sisters.

A Celebration of Life ceremony with immediate family will be held later, with burial at New Salem Cemetery. She loved her hometown of Seneca and its long-time July 4th celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to: People's Bank of Seneca, Attn: Seneca Chamber 4th of July Festival Fund, P.O. Box 500, Seneca, Missouri 64865.
