(From Knell Mortuary)James Douglas “Jim” Holman, 68, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Tuesday evening, April 13, 2021 at Carthage Health and Rehab, Carthage. Jim was born June 28, 1952 at Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base in Jacksonville, North Carolina, the son of Lester Jack Holman and Gladys Nadine Rothgeb.
He was a 1970 graduate of William Chrisman High School, Independence, Missouri. He later attended Pittsburg State University. Jim was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a hospital corpsman stationed on the U.S.S. Bronstein, the U.S.S. McCandless, and in Okinawa, Japan.
After his time with the Navy, Jim worked as a respiratory therapist for McCune Brooks Hospital and Freeman Hospital, and also worked in Mt. Vernon, Missouri and Pittsburg, Kansas.
He married Kimberly Montee on January 21, 1995 in Joplin, Missouri. Jim was a member of the DAV in Carthage. He was very quick witted and always put a smile on a face with his dry sense of humor. He enjoyed photography, hiking, and getting in the car and driving, never knowing where he might end up, but most of all, loved his family. He was a Southern Baptist by faith.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Kimberley Holman; two daughters, Christa Lawson (Jerry), Carthage, and Jennifer Vokolek, Kansas City, Missouri; three sons, Nathan Hazan (Kerenza), Lamar, Missouri, Ian Holman of Louisiana, and Sean Purcell, Shawnee, Oklahoma; a brother, John Daniel (Danna), Weir, Kansas; a sister, Jodie Daniel Griffberg, Carthage; twenty-five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren with one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, J.B. Daniel; a brother, Jack Daniel; two grandsons and one great-grandson.
Per Jim’s wishes, there was cremation. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts are suggested to help take care of the senior animals at Joplin Humane Society in care of Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
