Donald Bellamy

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Donald James Bellamy, age 80 of Galena, passed away at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO at 2:13 AM on Sunday, February 11, 2018.

Don was born on April 24, 1937 to the union of Conley Carl Bellamy and Theresa “Bernice” (Johnson) Bellamy. He spent many years as a self-employed mechanic, and was also a union iron worker, a career that allowed him to participate in the construction of the St. Louis, MO Gateway Arch. He had lived in Fort Worth, TX, Springfield, MO, Bentonville, AR, Joplin, MO, and Denver, CO before settling in Galena 38 years ago. He was very particular about the maintenance of his lawn, keeping it in pristine condition at all times. He spent many years as a Little League Coach and Babe Ruth Baseball Coach. He wasn’t much for titles, but the titles that meant the most to him were “Grandpa” and “Papa Don”. He was a member of the Pentecostal Faith, and had most recently attended Park Hill Church of the Nazarene in Galena.

Don was united in marriage with Barbara Ann Perry on February 27, 1965. She preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Conley and Bernice; one step-daughter, Joni Martin; one granddaughter, Heather Dawn Bellamy; one brother, Larry Bellamy; and three sisters, Billie Gideon, Fern Ash, and Joy Dudley.

Survivors include two sons, Eric Bellamy (wife, Devon) of Strafford, MO, and Patrick D. Bellamy (wife, Brenda) of Fort Worth, TX; two step-children, Bud Martin of Fort Scott, KS, and Pamela Cox (husband, Duane) of the State of Ohio; two brothers, Alva Bellamy (wife, Peggy) of Galena, and Darrell Bellamy (wife, Abby) of Springfield; five sisters, Geneva Beaver of Joplin, Cleta Chappell (husband, Roy) of Galena, Carolyn Myers (husband, Jack) of Joplin, Loretta Wilkerson (husband, Jerry) of Joplin, and Joyce Cole (husband, Melvin) of Springfield; as well as 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
