George Orville Himes went to be with the Lord on February 11, 2018 at 8:20 a.m. He was born in Joplin, MO on April 21, 1939 to Harry Himes and Alice (Cook) Himes.
He has been a lifetime area resident. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandpa, and Poppy.He attended Southside Baptist Church for many years. He worked for the Foremost Dairy for 24 years; then worked for Steadley and Leggett & Platt for 20 years and retired in 2009. He was always active and did a lot of odd jobs to stay busy. In his younger days he liked to fish and go camping but what he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Alice and Emmitt O’Connell; four sisters, Dollie Bigbee, Mary Lovell, Joyce Vance, Helen Riggs, and a brother-in-law Jay Wood. He married the love of his life, Dollie Golden of Joplin, Mo on March 16, 1957 and recently celebrated 60 years together. She survives at the home. He also leaves behind two daughters, Terri Himes, and Debbie Merman; his son, Kevin Himes; and son-in-law, John Merman, all of Joplin; three sisters, Janie Wood of Webb City, Twyla Davis of Joplin, and Faye Hance of Michigan City, Indiana; one brother, Charles Himes of Sparta, Mo; 11 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Southside Baptist Church. Brother Phil Owens and Brother Don Cardin will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Kevin Himes, Trevor Himes, Nathan Vanderpool, Ben Boyer, John Merman, John Edwards, Jimmie Holden, and Dale Johnson.
The visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
