Walter L. Stehm, age 92, of Chouteau, Oklahoma, a longtime Joplin-Duenweg resident, passed away at 2:05 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Tulsa, Ok. Walter was born May 14, 1925 in Joplin and moved to N. E Oklahoma in 2006. He was employed as a machinist with Safeway Bakery and later did home remodeling. Walter attended Word Fellowship in Chouteau, and while in Joplin attended Calvary Church of the Nazarene. He served his country during WW II in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed fishing and bowling.
Walter married Peggy Rhoades Feb. 15, 1947 and celebrated 71 years of marriage. She survives. Additional survivors include two daughters, Robin Graue, and Mona Newcomb and husband Newly, all of Pryor, Ok. five grandchildren, Jamey Graue (Sara), and Shannon Brewer (Cory), all of Carthage, Mo., Molly Reed (Mike), Locust Grove, Ok. Carmen Bell (David), Vienna, Va. and Ashlie Pogue, Sapulpa, Ok., 12 great grandchildren, Ashley, Olivia, Ivey, Quinn, Benjamin, Katie, Anne-Marie, Ruthie-Jane, Laney, Olivia, Anne, and Hazel. Walter was preceded in death by two brothers, and three sisters.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Rev. Jim Martin officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday prior to the Service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
