Oda Mae Woody

(From Whelchel Grace Funeral Home)

Oda Mae (Stout) Woody, 90, of Forsyth, Missouri.

It is with deep sadness and much sorrow we must announce the passing of our sweet little mother and mother-in-law, Oda Mae Woody. Mother passed away peacefully this morning, July 24, 2022, at Cox Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born on April 15, 1932, to Oscar and Anna Leigh Stout of Lamar, Missouri.

Oda Mae was preceded in death by her parents; Glen, her loving husband of 50 years; one sister, June Lehr of Pierce City, Missouri; and son-in-law David Sabo of Nixa, Missouri.

She is survived by her sons Ronald Woody and Steve (Alissha) Woody, both of Forsyth, and daughter Pam Sabo of Nixa. Also surviving are: four grandchildren and their spouses - Michael and Jessica Woody, Austin and Cassi Sears, Jessica and Simon Matney, and Jared and Katie Woody; five great-grandchildren - Maddison, Joplin, Brooks, Graham, and Griffin; one half-brother Henry Stout “Jr.” and his wife Sharon of Joplin, Missouri; and one half-sister Kathy Griffitt and her husband Rick of Lamar.

Oda Mae was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Lamar at an early age. She continued as a devoted Christian her entire life.

Oda Mae was united in marriage to Glen Woody on September 8, 1951, in Bentonville, Arkansas. They began their marriage in the town of Lamar, Missouri, where they both worked and raised their family.

After sixteen years in Lamar, the Woody’s headed south to a new adventure in the little town of Forsyth, Missouri. They partnered with an old friend from Lamar and became co-owners of Glenn’s Supermarket. They eventually were able to become sole owners after the passing of their friend, at which time they dropped the second “n” from the store's name.

They continued to serve the people of Forsyth for another twenty-seven years. They had a total of forty years with Glen’s Supermarket in that once tiny little town of Forsyth.
