Alta Carpenter

Alta Jane Carpenter, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2026. A lifelong resident of Missouri, she was born July 18, 1940, in Little Blue, Missouri, to the late Ruben Dukes and Gladys (Palmer) Dukes. Alta graduated from Liberal High School in the class of 1959.

Alta was united in marriage to Donald Ray Carpenter on Nov 15, 1959, in Iantha, MO. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2003. Alta attended a beauty college for hair styling and cutting after high school. Along her other various career paths, she was manager of the Dixie Shop clothing store in Joplin. She helped Don on the farm and with the ACDC Hay Company when she could and worked for over 10 years in the packing department for O'Sullivan Industries in Lamar, MO. She enjoyed attending the Autumn Leaves Club in Arcadia, KS, loved sewing, playing cards and dice, putting puzzles together and spending time with her loved ones. She was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church.








Alta is survived by her children: Tony A. Carpenter of Liberal, MO.; Rhonda J. Hoffman (Jerry- deceased) of Webb City, MO.; Douglas R Carpenter (Linda) of Odessa, TX; and David L Carpenter (Amy) of El Dorado Springs, MO. She also leaves behind a legacy of six grandchildren, Jerry C “Trey” Hoffman III (Charlene), Travis Hoffman (James), Dustin Carpenter (Emma), Amanda Carpenter, Drew Carpenter, and Lane Carpenter; eight great-grandchildren, Dereck Hoffman, Dalton Carpenter, Julian Carpenter, Beowulf Carpenter, Haden Vath, Remington Taglieri, Tesla Taglieri, and Sofia Taglieri; one great-great-granddaughter, Averie Carpenter; as well as many other nieces and nephews of which were all her favorites.

In addition to her husband, preceding in death before her, a granddaughter, Amber Carpenter; son-in-law, Jerry C Hoffman Jr; eleven siblings, Lavon Potter, Thelma Still, Velma Stark, Mary Chrisenberry, Doris Favor, Ruby McQueen, Beverely McCurdy, Wanda Loveall, Fern Bern, Jack Dukes and her twin sister, Alma Swain; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on July 19, 2026, at Liberal City Park Community building, 1212 NW 40th Rd, Liberal, MO. Food will be served and there will be sharing of many, many good /or bad memories from 10:00a.m.-2:00p.m. The family will lay her to rest next to her husband at the Shiloh Cemetery, Liberal MO.
