(From Ulmer Funeral Home)Roberta Jean Baum, 76, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Joplin Gardens Nursing Home. Roberta was born on September 2, 1949, to the late Robert and Bonnie Mills in Sedan, Kansas. The family moved to Carthage during the early 60’s where Roberta attended high school.
After school, she went on to work many different jobs. Most recently she retired from Innovative Industries as a supervisor, and after that she did odd jobs here and there. Her favorite pastime was doing any type of craft. She liked to paint, build little pieces of furniture for her gnomes, and even made some jewelry; she was very creative.
Roberta was united in marriage to Gary Lee Baum on March 26, 1966; he preceded her in death. They celebrated 27 loving years together.
She is survived by one son, Brek Baum (Kristy); two daughters, Robin Buck (Don) and Dawndy Baum; five grandchildren, Steven Hargis, Sara Buck, Caitlin Tracy, Logan Baum, and Tristin Baum; 11 great grandchildren, Matheu Hargis, Karlee Cook, Brycen Hargis, Kade Wilton, Oakley Davis, Aspen Davis, Willow Davis, Codi Minor, Cooper Minor, Ivy Garcia, and Ellie Garcia; one great-great grandchild, Colter Hargis; one sister-in-law, Dianna; and one nephew Daniel Mills.
Roberta was preceded in death by her twin brother, Robert Dean Mills; three sisters, Sharon Uptegraph and two in infancy; and one nephew, Gregory Mills.
There will be a graveside service for Roberta at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Ozark Memorial Park in Joplin, Missouri. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Missouri. The burial will immediately follow the service.
