Carol Brown

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Carol Neoma Eagle-Brown, age 85, of Baxter Springs, Kansas, passed away peacefully on September 3rd, 2026 in Columbus, Kansas. She was born on June 22nd, 1941 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Karl Alfred Eagle and Violet Henrietta Young-Eagle. She lived a long life and will be greatly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

When Carol was 8 years old, her family moved from Minnesota and settled down in Lawrence, KS where she graduated high school in 1959. A year later, she married Richard Wesley Brown on July 28th, 1960 in Miami, OK. Richard adored Carol and they raised a beautiful family together. They welcomed their first child, Leston Karl Brown on July 30th, 1964 in Lawrence, KS. Two years later, they welcomed their second child, Anna Lynnette Brown (now Lewis-Osburn) on February 8th, 1966 also in Lawrence, KS.

In 1974, they moved to Baxter Springs and lived a wonderful life, growing roots and raising their children. They loved to go camping, fishing, and just spending quality time together. All throughout her life, Carol was an intelligent and passionate woman. She loved to embroider, sew, and do word searches. As a teenager, she learned shorthand writing (stenography) and her favorite past-time was shorthand writing movies and television shows. She also loved reading, and passed that love to her descendants. Her laugh was infectious and her beauty was beyond measure. Carol was also a life-long fan of Elvis Presley and the Kansas City Chiefs. She spent many Sundays watching her favorite team. Her favorite song was “Wooden Heart” by Elvis and she loved watching his movies. In 1994, Richard’s sudden passing left Carol heartbroken, but she knew one day she would get to see him again. Her family is mourning her deeply, but know that she is with her loving husband who she missed immensely for 32 years.

Preceding her in death are her parents: Karl Alfred Eagle and Violet Henrietta Young-Eagle; beloved husband: Richard Wesley Brown; son: Leston Karl Brown; daughter: Tammy Helms; and many other family and friends that have passed over the years.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Anna Lynnette Lewis-Osburn and husband Ted Osburn of Baxter Springs, KS. Her 5 granddaughters including Annastacia Lynn Elton and spouse, David Duane Woodward IV, of Miami, OK; Anissa Lynnette Lewis and spouse, William Jerry Wader III, of Miami, OK; Kimberly Sue Lewis of Joplin, MO; Jasmine Lee Dame of Galena, KS and Ariel Renae Dame of Columbus, KS. Carol also had 7 great-grandchildren including Alexia Marie Antoinette Elton, Isabella Ann Elton, Timprince June Burton, Scarlett Lynn Woodward, David Duane Woodward V, William Jerry Wader IV, and Iris Brook Wader.
