Joan Cummings

Barbara "Joan" Cummings, 90, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on September 5, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Joan was born on January 9, 1936, in Joplin, Missouri, to the late Archie and Lela Mae (Dilworth) Robbins.

Joan graduated from Joplin High School in 1954, and not long after, she began the next chapter of her life when she married Glen Cummings on August 21, 1954. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, and shared memories. Joan was a devoted wife and a loving mother, and she embraced each season of life with grace and strength. While her children were little, she stayed home to care for them, and that role was one she treasured deeply. She loved being a mom, and later in life, she found great joy in being a grandma and great-grandma.

Joan worked for the post office for 25 years, where she was known for her reliability and dedication. Her years of service reflected her strong character and her commitment to doing her best in all things.

From an early age, Joan enjoyed tap dancing as a child, and as she grew older, she developed a love for bowling. She participated in tournaments and enjoyed the excitement and fellowship that came with the sport. She also loved to travel, and she especially enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including playing cards, dominoes, and bunko with family and friends.

Faith was an important part of Joan's life. She was active at First Baptist Church in Carl Junction and served faithfully as the director of Vacation Bible School.

Joan is survived by her children, Kimberly Jo Larson (Mark), Christopher Glen Cummings (Mary); grandchildren, Zach Larson, Cory Larson, Dawnielle Lipscomb (Tyler), and Cody Cummings (Jessica); 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Archie Robbins.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by beloved husband, Glen Cummings; son, Mitchell Linn Cummings; and siblings, Betty Kennedy and Pauline Beeson.

The family wants to send a special thanks to her care givers Amanda Collins and Lacey Meier.

A funeral service is planned for Thursday, September 10, at 10:00 a.m. at Rooted Church in Carl Junction, Missouri. Burial to follow at Forest Park Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri. The family invites friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
