Merlene Kay Gardner, age 70, Joplin, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at her home after a sudden illness.
Merlene was born November 3, 1946 in Lincoln, Nebraska to the late Merle Franklin Garrison and Mina E. Smith Garrison and had lived in Joplin most of her life.
She worked as an executive with Zacson Corporation for many years and had also worked as an insurance underwriter for several years. Merlene loved to play computer games and had friends from everywhere. She will be missed by all that knew her.
In addition to her parents, Merlene was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gardner in 1985.
Survivors include her children, Christina Baker, Joplin, Rebecca Dorn and husband, Daniel, Picayune, Mississippi, Misty Haynes and husband, Gene, Joplin; grandchildren, Izzabella-Rose, Dakota, Dawson, Logan, Gabrielle, Piper; and one great granddaughter, Alexandria.
Services are planned for Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church Chapel. Dr. John Swadley will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the chapel.

Dwight Canady

Ferdie Dwight Canady, age 50 died at 6:50 pm, Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the scene of an auto accident south of Joplin, MO.
Dwight was born August 7, 1966 in Joplin, MO. His parents are James Alvin and Joyce Joann (Cusick) Canady. He had lived in the Galena KS area all of his life.
While working at the Joplin Regional Airport, he studied to become a pilot, but was unable to fulfill all the requirements. He then began working in the area fast-food industry before becoming disabled. His favorite pastime was going to area casinos.
He is survived by his parents, James and Joyce Canady, Galena, KS; 2 nephews, 2 great nieces and 2 great-nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jamie Canady and Brian Canady.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS.

Grace Ann Martin, age 72, passed away on February 3, 2017 at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was one of nine children born to Dan and Mildred Martin. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Galena.
She leaves behind brothers Jerry and Linda Martin, Larry and Leatha Martin, all of Galena, Rev. Jeff D. and Joyce Martin, Oronogo; a sister, Sheila and Lonnie Crowder, Carl Junction; a sister-in-law, Anita Martin, Pine Bluff, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
At Grace Ann's request, no services are planned.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
The family would like to say thank you to Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center and Integris Hospice for all their help at this time.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

One brother, Alex Osburn of Byron, Michigan. Two sisters, Susan Cavanaugh of Corunna, Michigan and Betsey Douglas of Iron Mountain, Michigan. Eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Kellie loved her children, family, friends, sports, and her smartphone. She enjoyed keeping-up with her contacts, sending and receiving news, jokes and humorous cartoons. A gracious hostess, Kellie looked forward to family and friends coming to her home for holidays and family activities. She was very caring, and no one ever left hungry.
Kellie was preceded in death by her husband Mike Hight and mother Gloria Howe. She is survived by her fiancĂ© Willie Stevens; sons Chad Hight and Houston Hight; daughter Brittany Hight and grandson Brendan Hight; sisters Vickie Hagele and Kasie Workman; brothers Terry Howe, Tim Howe, Joe Howe, and Steve Howe; father Stan Howe and step-mother Betty Howe; Mike’s brother Larry Hight; long-time friend Christa Roberts; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and out-laws. She is sorely missed.
