Kevin Cooper

Kevin Michael Cooper, 9, of Joplin, Missouri, son of John and Christina Cooper, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020.

Kevin entered this life on May 9, 2010, in Joplin, Missouri. He was a 4th grade student. He enjoyed riding horses and four wheelers, hunting, fishing and Star Wars. He attended Forest Park Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Barbara Cooper; and maternal grandfathers, Arlen Dale Shilling and John Taylor.








Kevin is survived by his parents, John and Christina Cooper of the home; two brothers, Acey Cooper and Corey Cooper both of Diamond, Missouri; two sisters, Victoria Coale of Belton, Missouri and Katherine Cooper of Joplin; maternal grandmother, Dorsa Brashears of Diamond; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2020 at Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin, Missouri, with Dr. John Swadley officiating. Burial will follow in Stone Cemetery with Acey Cooper, Corey Cooper, Zach Courtney and Brandon Coale serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.

Daily Doss

Daily Delmar Doss, Sr., age 80, Joplin, passed away Friday, February 28, 2020 at Mercy Hospital.

Daily was born June 12, 1939 in Joplin, Missouri to the late Harry Arville Doss and Sylvia May Rawlins Doss. He had lived in the Joplin area all of his life, graduating from Carl Junction High School in 1957.

Daily owned and operated Daily Doss Realty. His passion was real estate, and he worked as a broker for over forty years. Daily also previously worked for Vickers, Eagle Picher and as a dairy farmer and cattle trader.

In his earlier years, Daily enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing baseball/softball in area leagues and racing cars at Mo-Kan. He was known by many for having the fastest ‘58 Chevy in the four-state area. Daily had a kind heart, loved to make people laugh with his jokes and telling stories. He will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.

In additional to his parents Daily was preceded in death by his brothers, Delano Doss and Teddy Doss.








Survivors include his beloved companion for many years Jody Neatherry; children, Tonya Doss, Janis Doss, Sherri Doss, Daily D. Doss, Jr., Michelle Lea Baker and husband, Christopher, Christena McDaniel and partner, Travis Sills, Jennifer Brandon, Jamie Brandon, James Neatherry, and wife, Christina; grandchildren, Charity, Daniel, Alec, Troy, Dustin, Kortney, Gabriel; great grandchildren, Kora and Blayze; siblings, Della Verbryck, Henry Doss, Jake Doss, Bonnie Stever, Stanley Doss, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Services are planned for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary. Pastor Audie Tash will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.

Idabell Brattin

Idabell Brattin, age 83, of Joplin, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Mrs. Brattin, daughter of the late Loyd and Martha (Mathis) Boyd, was born on October 31, 1936 in Joplin.

She attended Rainmiller Grade School and graduated high school from Duenweg. She later attended Stapps Beauty School. 

On March 15, 1957 in Joplin, she was united in marriage to Dewey Brattin. He preceded her in death on September 18, 2014. Idabell began her employment with FAG Bearing Corporation on March of 1971 and retired after 25 years of employment in December of 1996. After retirement she was very active as a volunteer for Freeman Hospital and was a member of the College Heights Christian Church.








Survivors include her son, Warren Brattin; one granddaughter Ashden Nichole (Brattin) Smith, and her husband, Eric, of Seneca; two great-grandchildren Easton and Aubrey Smith both of Seneca; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Glen Boyd, Donald Boyd, Bill Boyd, Vern Boyd, and Bernard Boyd; and three sisters, Nadine Farrar, Wilma Tyree, and Dorothy Tyree.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020, at 11:00 am at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin with B.A. Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 5th from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the mortuary. Contributions may be made in Idabell’s memory to the charity of donor’s choice and may be entrusted to the mortuary.

Mary Wallace

(From Brenner Mortuary)

Mary M. Wallace, 80, of Pittsburg, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital.

She was born October 3, 1939 at Pittsburg, Kansas the daughter of Stuart E. and Marianne (Ralston) Atkins. She graduated from College High School in 1957.

On December 27, 1959, she was united in marriage to Cecil L. Wallace in Pittsburg. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2004.

Mrs. Wallace was a homemaker. She also worked for the Census Bureau in Pittsburg for two years. Later, after her husband passed, she worked for H&R Block for several years as a receptionist.

Membership was held in the Order of Eastern Star Rob Morris Chapter #74 of Pittsburg; the Order of Eastern Star Kent Chapter #117 of Weir; and the DAVet’s, retired and enlisted association auxiliary.








Survivors include, a son, David L. Wallace and his wife Nancy of Joplin, Missouri; a daughter, Mary E. Platt and her husband Mark of McCune, Kansas; a brother, Robert M. Atkins of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five grandchildren, Melissa, Michael, and Alex Wallace and Shelbi (Platt) McCabe and Garret Platt; and two great-grandsons, Benjamin and Lincoln McCabe.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday (March 6) at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, north of Pittsburg with Rev. Bob Banks officiating. Burial will follow the services. The Kent Chapter Order of Eastern Star will provide Eastern Star rites at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family will receive following Eastern Star rite until 8:00 p.m. at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials be given to College Scholarship Fund for her great-grandsons, Ben and Linc. Wilbur Birthelemer

Wilbur Michael Birthelmer, 92, Neosho, MO passed away March 1, 2020. He was born October 12, 1927 in Alliance, OH to Michael and Catherine (Platzner) Birthelmer.

Wilbur was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII. He had worked as a medical administrator. Wilbur was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Neosho, was a lifetime mason, Scottish Rite 33rd Degree, a member of Medical Group Management Association, and a Washington University alumni. He enjoyed traveling, playing in the stock market, watching baseball, football, and basketball. He was a fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Cleveland Browns.

Wilbur married Vivian Luella Smallwood on May 27, 1961 in Wichita, KS; she passed away August 12, 2014. 








He is survived by three children, Michael Birthelmer and fiancé, Amy Reagan of Neosho, MO, Alan Stewart and wife, Kathy of Augusta, KS, and Dee Stewart of Washington State; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim D. and Linda Smallwood of Neosho; a nephew, Jim L. Smallwood of Neosho; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Luella Birthelmer.

Services will be held 10 am Friday, March 6, 2020 at First Lutheran Church, Neosho with Reverend Steve Gillmore officiating. Interment will follow at Neosho IOOF Cemetery, Neosho. A time of visitation will begin Friday at 9:30 until service time at the Church.

Helen Pollock

(From Parker Mortuary)

Helen Loudene Pollock, age 85, Joplin, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Freeman West Hospital.

Helen was born June 21, 1934 in Butterfield, Missouri, daughter of the late Herbert Prier and Bernice Purdom Prier. Helen graduated from Cassville High School, and worked as an operator with Southwestern Bell from 1952 until retiring in 1984. She was a member of Newman Road Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Wayne Pollock, who passed away on December 24, 1998.








Survivors include her sisters, Peggy Bennett of Purdy, Missouri, and Becca Farris (Chris) of Joplin; nephews, James Lyall (Barbara) of Littleton, Colorado, Matt Roush (Mitch) of Dallas, Texas, Doug Roush of Webb City, Missouri, Greg Bennett, Tom Bennett, and Donnie Bennett (Jackie) all of Purdy; niece, Pam Bohn (Tony) of California; several great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Friday, March 6, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Butterfield, Missouri with Eddie Bowman officiating.

The family will receive friends at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary on Thursday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Sarah Probert

Sarah Arletta Probert, 99 of Jasper, Missouri passed away February 29, 2020 at St. Lukes Nursing Center, Carthage, Missouri.

Sarah was born December 3, 1920 in Barton County, Missouri to Clarence and Hattie (Gill) Murphey. She had worked as a cashier for A&P grocery store as a young woman and became a homemaker after marriage. Sarah was a member of the Jasper Christian Church.

Sarah was united in marriage to Lester Probert on March 27, 1954 at Seneca, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2006. 








Survivors include, two sons, Steven Probert and wife Debra and Doug Probert and wife Kelly both of Jasper, MO.. A special friend, Tammy Wingo. Two step- grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Carrol Murphey, and three sisters, Loretta Sikes, Helen Rice, and Leora VanBummel.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Weng Funeral Chapel. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Weng Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Hackney cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Hackney Cemetery or Jasper Christian Church.
