Opal C. Kidd, 84, Carthage, MO, passed away Wednesday May 13, 2015 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage, MO. Opal C. Counts was born October 20, 1930 in Washington County, VA to Claude Edgar Counts and Martha Elizabeth (Francisco) Counts. She graduated high school in Meadowview, VA. She married Ermond Elmer Kidd on November 24, 1952; he preceded her in death on June 5, 2001. Opal worked as the store manager of Davidson’s Shoes on the Carthage Square. She was Methodist by faith. She was an amazing mother, loved rummage sales, refinishing furniture, shopping, part Southern Bell, part Annie Oakley, a quick wit and age had ripened her sweetness. She was a classy dresser, a green thumb, a bird lover, and had that certain positive outlook that “every day is a good day”. She will live on in our hearts forever.
Survivors include two daughters; Kristina A. Hodkin (Jeff), Carthage, MO, and Terry L. Dillon, Kansas City, MO; two sons; Larry E. Kidd (Cristina), Houston, TX, and Vincent T. Kidd (Jana), Neosho, MO; one sister; Zana Davis, Goodletsville, TN; one brother; Claude Edgar Counts Jr., Meadowview, VA; nine grandchildren; Kasie Kidd, Mary Jo Marconi, Paul Kidd, Ethan Dillon, Sean Dillon, Ashley Osborne, Alicia Osborne, Jaclyn Kidd, and Natalie Kidd; five great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; Dessaline Surber; a son-in-law; J.R. Dillon, and a still born baby son.
Graveside services will be held at 4:30 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Dudman Springs Cemetery. Rev. Ron Franklin will officiate.
