Betty Dennis

Betty Eloise Gordon-Dennis, age 72, of Lamar, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, July 16, 2017, at Truman Healthcare Center, surrounded by her family.

Betty was born January 22, 1945, in Madera, California, third of the six children of Willis and Martha (George) Gordon. On September 2, 1989, Betty married Luther Lee Dennis and he preceded her in death September 6, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Janet, and a niece, Sheila (Gordon) Mayfield.

Betty moved to Lamar to be with her mother in 2001, and became a very active member of First Christian Church where she enjoyed the fellowship, participated in the Splash Group and Keenagers, enjoyed helping with the Nursery, and the Sunny Corner Sunday School Class. Betty had worked for Jed Brown’s Model CafĂ©, Carthage, Missouri for years and later in the housekeeping departments at McCune Brooks Hospital and the Barton County Hospital. Betty always looked forward to Senior Citizens every morning, riding the Oats Bus, and taxi, playing cards and dominos with family and friends, going to Wednesday Afternoon Matinee at the Lamar Plaza, listening to her favorite gospel or country songs and watching the Hallmark Channel on TV. She was well known in the community and enjoyed visiting with everyone she met on her daily travels.

Survivors include four brothers and their wives, Jerry & Lura Gordon, Jasper, Missouri, Gary & Patricia Gordon, Carthage, Missouri, Bob & Peggy Gordon and Ron & Soni Gordon, all of Claremore, Oklahoma; an uncle and three aunts, Jack & Carolyn Gordon, Nevada, Missouri, Rosalee Potter, Lamar, and Lucille George, Iola, Kansas; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces; and a large extended family.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 19th and the funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 20th at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar. Burial will be at the Sheldon Cemetery in Sheldon, Missouri.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Barton County Senior Center, Lamar First Christian Church, or Oats Bus Transportation in care of the funeral home.
