Miriam Root

Miriam A. Root, of Greenfield, MO, departed this life on Thursday, July 27, 2017, in her home at the age of 96 years.

She was born on December 8, 1920 in Beeston, England to Albert E. and Fanny (Sutton) Somerset. Miriam was united in marriage to David W. Root on December 8, 1942 in Macedon, New York. Her career with Pacific Telephone Co. as district manager in finance in Los Angeles, California spanned many years before her retirement and move to Greenfield, Missouri in November of 1978. Miriam was a member of the Mt. Olive Christian Church, the Neola Missionary Council, the American Legion Auxiliary Post #47, and the Greenfield Ladies Literary and Civic Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Fanny Somerset; her husband, David Root; two sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include her niece, Penny Somerset and her husband Jim Woody of Marion, New York; special friends, James and Cecelia Clabough of Lockwood, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, in Greenfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be shared at www.greenfieldfuneralchapel.com. Services are under the care of Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
