Marjorie Lewis

Mrs. Marjorie Fern Lewis, 96, of Pineville, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday afternoon, July 2, 2017, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri, after a sudden illness.

Marjorie entered this life on September 7, 1920, in Carthage, Missouri, daughter of the late Henry and Nellie (Collier) Jones. She was a lifelong area resident of McDonald County. On July 16, 1938, she was united in marriage to Luther Ben Lewis and to this union six children were born. She retired from Hudson Foods in Noel, Missouri, in 1982, after twenty-five years of service. After retirement, she served as a caregiver for numerous homebound individuals in the area. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading and studying scriptures. She attended worship services at Hilltop Mission Church in Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luther Lewis on August 6, 1955; a daughter, Betty Sharon Martin; a grandson, Jerry Lynn Martin; a daughter in-law, Marlene Lewis; three brothers and three sisters.

Marjorie is survived by her five children, Norma Gardner of Noel, Missouri, Jerry Lewis and wife, Lilly, of Raymore, Missouri, James David Lewis and wife, Caty, of Flower Mound, Texas, Donna Peck and husband, Bo, of Anderson, Missouri and Dennis Carl Lewis of Garfield, Arkansas; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; a son in-law, J.L. Martin of Anderson; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lewis were held Thursday, July 6, 2017 in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Scott Leonard officiating. Burial followed in the Pineville Cemetery. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Mark Lewis, Dustin Peck, Jeff Lewis, Luther Gardner, Jeremy Lewis and Aaron Gilmore. Memorials are being directed to either Hilltop Mission Church or the Pineville Cemetery Care Fund c/o the funeral home.
