Janis Melton

Mrs. Janis Raye Melton, 79, of Pineville, Missouri, departed this life on Monday evening, July 24, 2017, in the comfort of her home after a recent battle with cancer.

Janis entered this life on April 22, 1938, in Pineville, Missouri, the only child born to the union of the late James Ray “Whistle” and Francis (Bush) Rickman. She was raised in Pineville and was a 1956, graduate of Pineville High School. She furthered her education at Missouri Southern State College in Joplin. She resided in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and Puerto Rico before returning home to Pineville in 1979. She retired from the Pineville US Bank in 2003, as a loan officer. Janis also served two terms as Pineville Mayor and was a Master Gardener with the Missouri University Extension Office. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Pineville.

On July 19, 1985, she was united in marriage to Harold Melton and he survives of the home. Additional survivors include four daughters, Marjorie Richards and husband, Mark, of Bentonville, Arkansas, Martha Gammon and husband, Wayne, of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Mary Cook of Pineville and Michele Wilburn and husband, Wes, also of Pineville; two sons, Mike Click of Pineville and Scott Click and wife, Martha, of Anderson; nine grandchildren; one great grandson; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Melton will be held graveside on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. at the Pineville Cemetery with Pastor Marilyn O’Brien officiating. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Talon Cook, Garrett Cook, Calvin Gammon, Wayne Gammon, Wes Wilburn and Mark Richards. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
