Velma McNary

Velma J. McNary, 87, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at her home. Velma was born January 18, 1930 in Yates Center, Kansas to John Herman Phillips and Mable Aliene "Culver" Phillips. Velma was a long time resident of Carthage, a homemaker and a member of Christ Church of Perseverance.

Velma was united in marriage to Emery McNary September of 1956 in Carthage; he survives.

Velma is survived by four sons: Kenneth Schlup of Miami, Oklahoma, Gary McNary and wife Maria of Jacksonville, Florida, Larry Schlup and wife Jodi of Pierce City, Missouri and Kevin McNary and wife Toni of Seneca, Missouri. She is also survived by one brother William Thomas Phillips of Wenatchee, Washington, one sister Patricia Aliene Cogzill of Climax Spring, Missouri, along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Velma is preceded in death by one son Daniel McNary, two brothers: Homer Lee Phillips and Arthur Eugene Phillips and three sisters: Mary Hill, Betty June Smith and Wilma Mae Rabe.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carthage. Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home.
