Eldon Blake

Mr. Charles Eldon Blake, 84, of Southwest City, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday morning, July 1, 2017, in the comfort of his home with his family by his side.

Eldon entered this life on November 13, 1932, in LaBelle, Missouri, one of eight children born to the late Justin and Wilma (Stice) Blake. He was raised in Knox County Missouri and was a 1949 graduate of Edina High School. On November 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Velma Lee Kessler and to this union six children were born. They resided in Danville, Arkansas, prior to moving their family to Southwest City, Missouri, in 1967. Velma and he were the original owners of the Malt Shop in Southwest City. He retired in 1997 from Simmons Industries in Southwest City after a lifelong career in the poultry industry. Eldon was a fifty-six year member of the Masonic Lodge, former Scoutmaster of Troop 96 and a member of the First Baptist Church in Southwest City. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time in his shop crafting woodworking projects.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a great granddaughter, Makenna Blake; and three siblings, Laree Burkhart and Don and Billy Blake.

Eldon is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Velma Blake of the home; six children, Richard Blake and wife, Donna, Kathy Lee McKee and husband, Jim, David Blake and wife, Nyanna, Mary Ann Golden and husband, Steven and Daniel Blake all of Southwest City, Missouri and Judy Kay Gow and husband, Bud, of Noel, Missouri; thirty-seven grandchildren; fifty-one great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren (for a combined total of ninety-three); two sisters, Nadine Parrot of Wichita, Kansas and Peggy Motter of Edina, Missouri; two brothers, Leon Blake of Edina, Missouri and Robert Blake of Quincy, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Blake were held Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Missouri, with Bro. Rob Grimm officiating. Burial followed in the Southwest City Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers were Michael McKee, Eric Blake, Tim Testerman, Cody Blake, Matthew Blake and Brent Blake. Ryan McKee, Chris McKee, Kaleb Testerman, River Blake, Dylan Blake and Braden Blake will be serving as honorary. A memorial has been established and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
