Jimmie Montgomery

James J. (Jimmie) Montgomery, son of James Harry Montgomery and Cassie (Roark) Montgomery was born in Seneca, MO on Oct. 9, 1922 and passed away at the age of 94 on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

Jimmie was a 1940 graduate of Seneca High School and until his death he was the last remaining classmate. He had lived in Seneca all of his life. He started his work career at the former Lester Watt’s Texaco Station on Main Street in Seneca. Following that he served this country from 1942-1946 in the US Army. He happily carried mail for over 30 years to his family and friends on Route 1, Seneca. Jimmie was a 32nd degree Mason of the Blue Lodge #247 in Neosho, MO and a member of the Seneca Christian Church.

James J. Montgomery married Tressa Addington on February 1, 1942 in Seneca and she preceded him in death June 12, 1997. Also preceding him in death was his parents, one brother, Harry Montgomery; five sisters, Naomi Watts, Jewell Montgomery, Vera Moore, Eula Campbell and Nelladene Bottero.

James J. Montgomery married JoAnn Borthick and July 29, 2002 and she survives. For the last several years Jimmie and JoAnn lived at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin.
Additional survivors include two daughters; Linda Garner and husband Frank, Clayton, NC and Sandra Hartley and husband Dennis, Carthage, MO; two grandchildren, Brad Hartley, Rogers, AR and Stephanie Hartley Grooms and husband Matt, Joplin, MO.

Graveside services under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca will be held at 10:00, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the Seneca Cemetery.
