Howard A. Weakley, age 91 passed away at 2:40 pm, Friday, November 10, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital following an illness.
Mr Weakley was born December 21, 1925 in rural Ottawa County, Oklahoma. His parents were Thomas and Elsie (Comer) Weakley. He had lived here all of his life.
He served in the U S Navy during World War II attached to the USS Ponaganset in the Pacific Theater.
He worked as a truck driver for Yellow Transit and later for Roadway for several years before retiring in 1988. He also was a rancher and farmer. His family said he was the hardest working man they have ever known.
He was a member of the Teamsters union where he served as a Union Steward for several years. He was also a member of the COOP at Baxter Springs KS.
Howard was married to Doris Cornelison on June 15, 1946 in Galena, KS. She survives.
Additional survivors include one son, Tommy Weakely (fiance, Tammy Allen), Galena, KS; one daughter, Sue Weakley, Loma Linda, MO; three grandchildren, Shannon Shannon, Stacy Moore, and Melissa Trickett; 8 grandchildren and tw0 Great Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Pastors Dave and Mary Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Pence Cemetery, Baxter Springs, KS.
