Larry Pounds

Larry D. Pounds, age 55 of Carl Junction, Mo., passed away early Saturday, November 18, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born January 6, 1962 in Sayre, Ok., the son of Bill and Frances (Burks) Pounds. He has been a long-time area resident, Larry attended Parsons Public Schools for his K-12 education. He earned an A.A. Degree from Labette Community College and a B.S. from Pittsburg State University. Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Following his service, he moved to Carl Junction and worked as a custodian for the Carl Junction School District for many years before illness forced him to retire. Larry was a member of the Parsons Friendship Southern Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents; Bill and Frances Pounds of Joplin, Mo., a daughter; K.C. Pounds of Long Island, N.Y., a son; Derek Pounds and fiancé Cheyenne of Willow Springs, Mo., his brother; Gary Pounds of Joplin, his ex-wife; Carmen Cain of Long Island, and four grandchildren; Christopher Sloan, Peyton Jones, Nevaeh Pounds and Shealee Pounds.

After 7 ½ years of battling Multiple Myeloma Cancer, kidney and liver failure, Larry said to his mother, “I’ve had a good life.”

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor Rex Wakefield, will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery in Joplin.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
