Melvin Miller

On November 1, Melvin Joe Miller died peacefully at Agape Hospice House, Columbia SC. Joe was born on September 1, 1929 in the small town of Reeds, Missouri. He grew up in the vicinity of Jasper, Missouri, where his father worked at cattle trading and farming. He had a brother Franklin Miller and a sister, Jesse Gresham. He graduated with a degree in accounting from Southwest Missouri State and was drafted into the army in 1951. That same year he married Mary Ellen Testerman.

His career included over twenty years working for the Speas Vinegar and Apple Juice Company. When he retired at age 52, he had risen to the position of Executive Vice President of Operations and co-owner. He was elected president of the Kansas City Chapter of the National Association of Accountants, President of the Kansas City Northeast Industrial Association, and served as an officer in several other organizations.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, investing in the stock market, and his grandsons. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, his sons John David Miller (Patricia Miller) of Fayette, Missouri and Paul Allen Miller (Ann Poling) of Columbia, South Carolina, as well as his grandsons Denver Miller and Samuel Paul Miller-Poling. He had three great grandsons.

A brief memorial service will be held Friday, December 15th, 11:00 am at Weng Funeral Home in Jasper, Missouri. Those attending are invited to join the family for lunch provided at Cookies Restaurant in Golden City, Missouri, immediately following the services.
