Clifford Mason McCann, Sr., age 73, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
Clifford was born January 19, 1944 in Aurora, Missouri, son of the late Lloyd Samuel McCann, Sr. and Helen Sue Barnhill McCann. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1962, and attended the School of the Ozarks in Branson. He has held a number of jobs over the years, but retired from Howsmon's Office Supply where he worked for 38 years. He taught many classes for the American Red Cross including first aid, CPR, Water Safety, swimming lessons, and Civil Defense classes. He was also featured in a series hosted by KSN for his courage and work ethic after having a stroke. He was given an 8% chance of survival, and the family was told he would never get out of bed again, but after 6 months of rehabilitation, he was released, and was back to work, volunteering at the Wildcat Park Everglades, something he was very proud to do. Clifford was also an avid photographer throughout the years, and has several photos on display.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd S. McCann, Jr..
Survivors include his wife, Frances L. Tatum McCann; children, LaNetta Lewis and husband Robert of Carl Junction, Patricia Harrington and husband Max of Miami, Oklahoma, Clifford "Chet" M. McCann, Jr. of Neosho, and Anna McCann of Joplin; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, David McCann of Aurora; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Mark Statler officiating.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p m.
