Norma Winnett

Norma Sue Winnett, 84, passed away December 31, 2017, at Webb City Health & Rehab where she had been a resident for the past several months.

Norma was born March 21, 1933, near Lamar, Missouri, the only daughter of John and Georgia Houk. She grew up in Duenweg, Missouri, working in her parents' general store and attending school, graduating from Duenweg High School in 1951. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Joplin.

She married Ernest Delbert Winnett on August 2, 1957, with whom she created a warm, loving home in Carl Junction for their three children.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, John and Georgia; her beloved husband, Delbert; a brother, Ned Houk; and a grandson, Cooper Vocelka.

She is survived by her daughters, Tammy Winnett, Sherry Vocelka and husband, Ron; her son, John Winnett; brothers, John, Jim and Steve Houk; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Her children wish to thank the staffs of Webb City Health & Rehab and Regional Hospice for the care given to their mother.

Graveside services for Norma are 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018, at Stone Cemetery in Fidelity with Ron Vocelka officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Norma’s memory to Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City or the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Missouri Chapter.
