Vesta Veryl Garton, age 84, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at the Sarcoxie Nursing Home. She was born January 6, 1934, in Tabor, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Allie Mae (Sibley) Burrus.
Vesta was a 1951 graduate of Miller High School, in Miller, Missouri. She was a homemaker and a member of the Onward United Methodist Church.
On November 12, 1953, she married Taylor “Gene” Garton in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2011.
Vesta is survived by her daughter, Gena Wecker and her husband, Jim, of Wentworth, Missouri; one son, Dan Garton and his wife, Jan, of Springfield, Missouri; three granddaughters, Kim Iman and her husband, Jason, of Wentworth, Krystal Rhuems and her husband, Jay, of Webb City, Missouri and Katie Coatney and her husband, Caleb, of Ozark, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Logan, Khloe, Addison, Blake, Landon and Tucker and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, Clarence and Allie, husband, Gene, sister, Ola Thompson and six brothers, Harold, Gerald, Robert, Harlan, Otis and Charles Burrus, preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow at the Grays Point Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, in the funeral home chapel.
