Rhonda Susan “Suzi” Dunagan, 59, of rural Lamar, passed away early Friday morning, February 2, 2018, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
Suzi was born December 13, 1958, in Lamar, fourth of the five children of Dean and Mary (Wolverton) Strong. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Heather Joleen Dunagan; a brother, Larry Strong; and a sister, Shelley Ann Ryan.
In 1975, Suzi met and later married the love of her life, Doyle Dunagan, and they made their home in the Milford area. Suzi’s Barton County childhood had instilled a life-long love of nature and animals. She developed a sixth sense in relating to dogs, her favorite horses, Dove and Tater, and the fawn, B.B., who was nurtured as a house pet. Working through the challenges of rheumatoid arthritis, Suzi had been the deli manager at Lamar Supermarket. She was an incredible homemaker, an accomplished seamstress, and had completed many cross stitch and crochet projects to share with family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Doyle, of the home; a son, Doyle D. Jr. (Jennie) Dunagan, Stockton, Missouri; two brothers, David (Christy) Strong, Lamar and Mick (Pam) Strong, Hot Springs, Arkansas; and a sister Sari (Rick) Hornbeck, Lamar. She delighted in her grandsons, Ryeder and Treyce and loved being “Grandma Suzi” to great-nieces, Taygen and Taylor. Suzi will be missed by many nieces, nephews, a large extended family, and a host of friends.
Services will be announced at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Barton County Humane Society or Arthritis Foundation in care of the funeral home.
