Carlene Blades, age 75, Carthage, MO, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Freeman Hospital Joplin, Mo. She was born on January 15, 1944 in Webb City, MO to the late Orville Carlton “Kack” and Edith Marie (Folks Rhodes) Fenton.
She married Walter Blades on November 24, 1962; he preceded her in death on January 3, 1988. She owned and operated H&R Block of Carthage with her mom and her daughter Robyn for over 52 years.
Carlene is survived by a son, Jeff Blades, Kansas City, Mo; a daughter, Robyn Blades, Carthage, Mo; a grandson, Quinn C. Blades, Kansas City, Mo; a brother, Ronald Fenton; a sister, Shirley Sewell; and many family and friends.
Carlene was a proud member of the Carthage High School class of 1962 and was very active in the planning of their reunions and get togethers. She was a very competitive person, so when she got together with her friends and family for game night or card night, there was sure to be excitement. Carlene’s pride and joy was her only grandson, Quinn Blades. She always encouraged him to aspire and be the best he could be; she never missed one of his plays or performances. She was his #1 fan. She was well known throughout the community and always tried to bring out the best in everyone.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Fairview Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Park Cemetery Carthage, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, April 1, 2019 at the Knell Mortuary. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Carthage Humane Society in care of Knell Mortuary.
