Mr. Johnny Dell “J.D.” Hines, 89, of Rocky Comfort, Missouri, departed this life on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, while at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, Arkansas, after a long battle with cancer.
J.D. entered this life on March 24, 1929, in rural Newton County Missouri near the Sweetwater Community, born to the union of Sam and Ella (Rosenbaum) Hines. He was raised in the Cyclone area in McDonald County and attended Kings Valley and Poplar Hill Schools. From 1948 to 1952, he served his country faithfully in the United States Army.
On July 24, 1952, in McDonald County, he was united in marriage to Hilma Mitchell and to this union six daughters were born. J.D. was self-employed throughout his life. He owned and operated Hines Brothers Wood Products from 1955-1987 and J&J Full Service from 1988 until retirement in 2002. He enjoyed sawmilling, cutting wood, fishing, attending family reunions and spending time his family and his beloved wife Hilma. J.D. was a member of the Wheaton Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Oren, Ed, Charles and Raymond; and two sisters, Dorothy and Mary; and a great granddaughter, Olivia Horton.
J.D. is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Hilma Hines of the home; six daughters, Vivian Sanders and husband, Jerry, of Washburn, Missouri, Kay Rose and husband, Howard, also of Washburn, Lillian Fairchild and husband, Ed, of Pineville, Lou Ann Lankford and husband, Ron, of Seneca; Madeline Horton and husband, Leon, of Rocky Comfort and Susan Morton and husband, David, of Neosho; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Lucille Mustain of Anderson, Eva Mustain of Wyandotte, Oklahoma and Shirley Cokley of Kansas City, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for J.D. will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Tye Zola and Matthew Horton officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Union Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Trevor Morton, Chad Horton, Jordan Fancher, Jerry Dale Sanders, Jr., Chris Lankford and Mike Miller. Jerry Sanders, Howard Rose, Ed Fairchild, Ron Lankford, Leon Horton and David Morton will be serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Memorials are being directed to the Union Cemetery Care Fund c/o the funeral home.
