Doyle E. Price, age 77, of Webb City, MO passed away at 12:13 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Phoenix AZ following a sudden illness. Doyle was born December 12, 1941 in Rombauer, Mo. to Milford and Hazel Gillean Price.
Doyle was a graduate of the Fisk, MO High School and attended college on a full athletic scholarship. He was selected to the Region VII Junior College All-Tournament Team in 1962. He was captain of the Southern Baptist Junior College Basketball Team, Walnut Ridge, AR, and chosen as Mr. Southern at Southern Baptist, an honor chosen by the staff as the person they feel will best represent the college upon graduation.
Doyle received his Bachelor’s Degree from University of the Ozarks, Clarksville, AR, his Master’s Degree from Drury College, Springfield, MO and his Specialist’s Degree from Southwest MO State University in Springfield. Doyle spent 32 years in Education.
He served as the Head Basketball Coach at Reeds Spring, MO High School from 1966-1977, and Assistant Principal the last two years. He served as Principal at Southwest High School, Washburn, MO from 1977-1987. He was Principal of the Webb City, MO Junior High School from 1987-1990 and Principal of the High School from 1990-1993. He served as Superintendent of Schools for the East Newton Schools near Granby, MO from 1993-1998. Doyle served on local Community Teachers Associations, MO State Teachers Assoc., Southwest MO Secondary Principals Assoc., MO State Principals Assoc., National Assoc. of Superintendants Assoc. and was a member of the MO State High School Activities Assoc. Board of Directors for two terms.
Doyle was a member of the Wellspring Church in Webb City, MO where he loved serving as a greeter. He never met a stranger and had a love for his Savior Jesus Christ. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed getting together with his former basketball players and dearly loved spending time with his sons, and grandchildren, and will be sorely missed.
Doyle married Sandra K. Laster September 4, 1965 in Fort Smith, AR and she survives. Additional survivors include three sons, Daryl Price (Charisse), Atlanta, GA, Gary Price (Rhonda), Webb City, MO, and Craig Price (Candi), Baxter Springs, KS, two brothers, Ron Price (Millie), Searcy, AR, and Larry Price (Judy), Aurora, MO, one sister, Lula Vaughn, (Marvin), Little Rock, AR and eight grandchildren; Nathan, Trey, Trevor, Courtney, Camille, and Tyler Price, and Mary-Hannah and Addison Smith.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Wellspring Church, 2424 N. Main St. Webb City, MO with Scott Smith and Craig Price, Ministers officiating. Burial will follow at the Oronogo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Wellspring Church and memorial contributions are requested to the Church in Doyle’s memory. Pallbearers will be Nathan Price, Trey Price, Trevor Price, Tyler Price, Joe Tittsworth, and Kenny Stone. Honorary pallbearers will be his former basketball players from Reeds Spring High School. Additional parking will be available at the Webb City High School Football Stadium with Shuttle Service to the Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, MO.
