Nunie Burtchaell

NoraLou "Nunie" Burtchaell, age 79, Joplin, formerly of McDonough, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.

Nunie was born August 24, 1939 in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, daughter of the late Col. John Sterling Mitchell and Zelma Lucille Clarkson Mitchell. She grew up in several locations following her father's military career before graduating from high school, and then attended Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia where she earned her a degree in Psychology. She was an elementary teacher for over 42 years with Tara Elementary, Clayton County, Georgia, where she enjoyed her Kindergarten Students. After retiring, she was a ILT, Instructional Lead Teacher, helping new teachers with her expertise in working with the younger students. She was a member of the "Sisterhood" in McDonough, and was an active member of the Bethany Baptist Church for years, where she was a member of the Gleaner's Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Good News Club for Ministry to Children in the Public Schools. She moved to Joplin in January of 2017 to be closer to family.

In addition to her parents, Nunie was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Dean "Mickey" Mitchell, who passed away on May 30, 2018.








Survivors include her daughter, Tara December Burtchaell of Atlanta, Georgia; brother, John S. Mitchell and wife Jane of Carl Junction, Missouri; sister-in-law, Beverly Mitchell of Joplin; nieces and nephews, Andrea Horton and husband Shawn, Christine Kalio and husband Brad, John David Mitchell, Michael Stephen Mitchell, and Shawn Sterling Mitchell all of Joplin; great-nieces and nephews, Nicholas Horton, Christopher Horton, Logan Kalio, Carson Kalio, Angelina Mitchell, Ghram Mitchell, Norah Mitchell, and Stevie Mitchell.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
